Louisville, KY* — The Louisville community is mourning the loss of Tasha White, a 49-year-old woman who was reported missing by her family following a domestic dispute, only to be tragically found dead days later. Her disappearance and subsequent death have sparked outrage and raised questions about the handling of missing persons cases—particularly those involving Black women.

Tasha White was last seen in late April 2025, following a heated dispute with family members. Concerned for her well-being, her loved ones contacted the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) on May 1 to report her missing. According to the family, they expressed fears that Tasha could be in danger, but they felt those concerns were not met with the urgency required. The department stated that the initial report did not meet the threshold for issuing a public alert, citing the absence of evidence pointing to foul play or immediate danger.

On May 7, a week after she was reported missing, White’s body was discovered near the Buechel neighborhood. She had been fatally shot. The discovery confirmed the family’s worst fears and intensified public scrutiny over how the case was handled.

Family members and community advocates are now demanding accountability and a thorough investigation into not only Tasha White’s murder, but also the police’s response to her disappearance. “We told them she wouldn’t just disappear like that,” said one of her relatives during a press conference. “We knew something was wrong. We just wanted them to take us seriously.”

The case has drawn attention from local and national advocacy groups who argue that cases involving missing Black women often receive delayed or inadequate responses. “Tasha’s story is sadly not unique,” said a spokesperson for the Louisville Urban League. “We continue to see disparities in how missing persons cases are prioritized and reported. This needs to change.”

As investigators work to determine who is responsible for White’s death, her family is focused on getting justice and raising awareness. Vigils and community gatherings have been held in her honor, with residents calling for reforms in how missing persons reports are processed and responded to by law enforcement.

Tasha White is remembered as a devoted mother, a kind friend, and a vibrant member of her community. Her family is committed to keeping her memory alive and ensuring her story is not forgotten.
